Just as critical as it is that the Atlassian Data Center products you use maintain a high level of availability and consistent performance, the same holds true for the Atlassian Marketplace apps that you rely on.
The Marketplace exists to extend and improve your experience using products like Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Service Desk, and Bitbucket. By adding key functionality including workflow automation, test management, diagramming, business intelligence and more, Marketplace apps help your business carry out some of its most important functions. That’s why Atlassian, along with our top Marketplace vendors, have set out to totally revamp our standards for apps used in large-scale, clustered Data Center environments.
Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new class of Marketplace app, one that is not just purpose-built for Data Center environments, but that is also tested and approved to live up to a higher standard. We’re not only backing our promise from the end of 2017 to strive to have your favorite Server apps available in Data Center environments, we’re ensuring they do so without compromising performance.
Introducing Data Center approved apps
In the culmination of a year’s worth of effort on the part of our Ecosystem team and Marketplace vendors, we’ve established new app development and testing criteria for Marketplace apps used in Data Center environments. These include elements of how apps handle cache operations, support required databases, implement locking and availability in clustered environments, manage event handlers, and much more.
Before an app can be approved for Data Center use, Marketplace vendors are required to build and test their apps to a more rigorous, Data Center-specific standard. What’s more, all test results must be submitted to Atlassian for further review and verification. Only the apps that have met these requirements will receive a “Data Center” listing on the Atlassian Marketplace. This means that you’ll no longer see the “Data Center compatible” tag on Marketplace listings but instead, you’ll see a new dropdown menu which will allow you to select the Data Center version. But don’t worry, if you’re already using apps in your Data Center environment, those existing Server apps will continue to function in your instance.
How to get your hands on Data Center approved apps
Since the conception of Data Center approved apps, we’ve been working closely with our Marketplace vendors to collect feedback and review performance data to ensure the best possible experience for our customers. We’re excited to announce that as of today we’ve approved over 75 apps for Data Center from our top Marketplace vendors.
In case you were wondering, we are of course holding ourselves to these new standards. Be sure to check out the Data Center approved versions of some of your favorite Atlassian apps—Portfolio for Jira, Team Calendars for Confluence, or Questions for Confluence—and take advantage of special incentive pricing, available for a limited time only.
If you don’t see your apps approved for Data Center yet, don’t worry — we’re approving new apps daily as our vendors and partners update their apps to meet our new Data Center standards.

What does this news mean for you?
Data Center approved apps will follow the same annual subscription model as your Data Center host products. This includes matching your Data Center user tier to ensure you don’t pay for unused licenses.
In addition, effective September 3, 2019, Data Center customers will not be able to renew maintenance for Server versions of apps for which there are Data Center approved versions. At that time, they will be required to purchase Data Center approved apps where available. However, if a Data Center approved version does not yet exist for your app, you can still run the Server version of that app in your Data Center environment.
