In 2020, driven by our mission to create a world-class cloud experience, we made the strategic decision to discontinue support for server products. Since then, millions of users have migrated from Server and Data Center to our Cloud offerings, drawn by the incredible customer experience we’ve been building. Today, over 250,000 customers now power collaboration using our world-class cloud platform.
The path to end support for server products has been marked by several milestones, and beginning February 15, 2024, Atlassian and Marketplace partners will no longer provide technical support, security updates, or bug fixes for vulnerabilities on server products or apps.
Don’t let this crucial deadline sneak up on you. As we approach this significant milestone, we’re committed to equipping you with the knowledge and resources needed for a seamless transition to our cloud platform. Below you’ll find examples from customers who’ve already made the move, details on new offers available to you, and how to get help assessing your cloud requirements.
Why move to cloud?
Secure the future of your business
Employing unsupported software is a high-stakes gamble, exposing you to potential cyberattacks and data breaches. Additionally, the financial repercussions can be staggering.
According to a recent report by IBM, the average cost of a data breach has surged to $4.45 million, a 15% increase in just three years. To fortify your business against these risks and to access new features and enhanced functionality, we strongly recommend migrating to Atlassian cloud before server end of support.
Work smarter, and faster
By moving to cloud, you’ll spend less time on maintenance and more time transforming your business. From increased productivity and faster insight-driven decision-making to improved cross-functional collaboration and employee engagement, our cloud platform can truly transform how your teams get work done. But don’t just take our word for it—listen to the success stories of those who have already made the leap.
Consider Clearwater Analytics, a prominent investment accounting software company based in the US. Process Engineer, Erica Larson, says “Overall, migrating to Atlassian cloud has totally been worth it.” Today, they are reaping the benefits of cloud-only offerings, such as AI-driven virtual agents for service management, automation capabilities that have significantly decreased their ticket volume, and cross-product smart links that keep teams connected—like embedding an entire Scrum board into a Confluence page.
Or hear from Iress, a financial services software company in Australia that offloaded server maintenance to focus on service. Since migrating to Jira Service Management Cloud Enterprise, they’re now seeing a 20% reduction in tickets and the ability to resolve over half of their tickets within a single day or less.
Jira Software Cloud marked a new era for Celonis, a market leader in process mining based in Germany. Their cloud transformation has resulted in freeing up resources to scale securely, deploy faster, collaborate more efficiently, and offload maintenance to focus on innovation.
Then there’s Ginkgo Bioworks, an American biotech company—since migrating “usage exploded across the company,” uncovering a need for enhanced security and streamlined permissions management. By integrating Atlassian Guard and Okta, Ginkgo Bioworks now has single sign-on and role-based administration, which enables IT to quickly grant employees access to exactly what they need.
The impact for our customers isn’t limited by industry or geography; it’s a universal movement towards a cloud-first future. Now, the question is: Are you ready to join this transformative journey?
How to get started
For those yet to chart their migration course, fear not. We’re here to guide you every step of the way. We have tailored guidance and offers that you can use to make your migration easier:
Claim your free 6-month Cloud Migration Trial
Discover what makes our cloud products different
If you haven’t started a Cloud Migration Trial yet, claim your trial before November 30, 2023 to take advantage of a limited-time free 6-month Cloud Migration Trial offer for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Jira Work Management, and Confluence. Cloud Migration Trials are associated with an existing Support Entitlement Number (SEN), so each SEN is eligible for one Cloud Migration Trial. Use your trial to explore and assess cloud, plan your migration, and then contact our team once you’re ready to start your production migration.
For Bitbucket customers, you can start with Bitbucket Cloud’s free version which includes all our core features. Contact our team with any questions about migrating your code.
After you’ve claimed your Cloud Migration Trial, activate free Marketplace app cloud trials
Extend your experience on cloud with apps
Historically, due to Marketplace app trials that were shorter than Cloud Migration Trials, it’s been more difficult to plan and test a migration that includes apps. We’re excited to share that you’ll soon have the ability to include your apps (from participating Marketplace partners) for the entire duration of your Atlassian product cloud migration trial or the duration of your associated server app maintenance or Data Center app subscription, whichever ends earlier.
Find guidance on how to assess your requirements
Strategize for success by understanding key differences in cloud
Cloud differs from our on-premise solutions, making it pivotal to evaluate differences in product features, user management considerations, your security and compliance needs, and the selection of apps you’ll bring on board.
If you aren’t currently in contact with Atlassian, reach out to our migration experts for tailored advice and refer to our step-by-step guide for a successful pre-migration assessment.
Explore eligibility for step-up credits & dual licensing
Strengthen your business case and don’t double pay during your migration journey
While you evaluate and build your business case, explore whether you’re eligible for migration incentives. Use step-up credits to apply any maintenance left on your server contract as a credit to your cloud subscription.
With server end of support in just a matter of months, you may feel especially pressed for time to migrate larger, more complex instances. But, rest assured, starting September 12, 2023, if you purchase an annual cloud subscription before February 15, 2024, Atlassian & participating Marketplace partners will offer up to one year of server support. This ensures that you won’t introduce security risks by remaining on server during your migration journey.
To be eligible, the annual cloud subscription must be for 1,001 or more users (Jira Software, Jira Work Management, or Confluence) or 251 or more agents (Jira Service Management). We will also accept expired server maintenance or Data Center subscriptions if they are no more than 30 days past their expiration date.
NOT READY FOR CLOUD YET?
If you are unable to move to our cloud platform now, consider upgrading to Data Center – a robust solution tailored to your self-managed requirements.
Announcing the last server releases
The final server Long Term Support (LTS) releases are Jira Software 9.12, Jira Service Management 5.12, and Confluence 8.5 (now available). These LTS versions will be eligible for security updates and bug fixes until server end of support.
The final server feature releases are Bitbucket 8.14, Bamboo 9.4, and Crowd 5.2. All future product releases will only support our Data Center offering. Fisheye and Crucible will continue to remain in basic maintenance mode.
You will no longer be able to upgrade to a new version once your server license expires.
Do you need to upgrade?
→ If you are eligible for the dual licensing offer listed above, be sure to upgrade to the most recent LTS versions for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and/or Confluence, as they’ll continue to receive bug fix releases as you complete your migration to cloud.
→ If you are planning to migrate to cloud and on a server version compatible with our migration tooling, then you can proceed with a migration directly.
Refer to the table below to see if you’re on a minimum supported server version.
