jolt%20awards.jpgGreat night yesterday at the SD West tradeshow. After a nice introductory presentation from Craig Newmark, awards were handed out at the 17th annual Jolt Awards and Atlassian walked away with two of them!
Jira scored a hat trick by winning its third Jolt award in three years. And Confluence took top prize in a new Collaboration Tools category. While I was happy to walk on stage and accept the plaques, the awards really belong to, and are a testament to, the outstanding engineering teams here at Atlassian!
One of the things that distinguishes these awards from other industry awards is that the judges actually use the products. By contrast, many awards are based on case study analysis. We gave each judge a free license, and then each one downloaded the respective software, did the installation, and tested the software themselves. What’s truly amazing is that there were about 9 judges each for Confluence and Jira, and these same 9 had to evaluate dozens of other products simultaneously. So, an additional measure of gratitude is for the judges for getting to know our products!

Atlassian Wins 2007 Jolt Awards for Collaboration and Productivity

First Jolt win for Confluence, third in a row “hat trick” for Jira
San Francisco, CA (Business Wire) March 22, 2007 — Last night at the 17th Annual Jolt Software Awards, Atlassian Confluence, the enterprise wiki, won the Jolt award in the Collaboration Tools category. Jira, one of the world’s most popular issue trackers, won a Productivity Award in the Bug and Defect Tracking category. The award ceremony was held at the SD West conference and tradeshow in Santa Clara, CA.
This is the third year in a row that Jira has been recognized by the Jolt judges for its excellence in helping users track and manage issues in their software development tasks. This year marked the first year for the Collaboration category, and Confluence took its top honors. Over 2,500 organizations globally rely on Confluence for knowledge sharing, document management, and collaboration.
For the past 16 years, the Dr. Dobb’s Jolt Product Excellence Awards have been presented annually to showcase products that have “jolted” the industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier, and more efficient. Jolt Cola, the fabled soft drink quaffed by software developers for sustenance during project development marathons, sponsors the awards presentation.
