Bitbucket Pipelines is making changes to the way we manage build logs to create a more predictable and standardised set of policies for managing customer generated data.

As part of these changes, we’re standardising and clarifying our log retention policies to ensure they are clear to customers and aligned with industry standards.

What’s changing?

Starting 25th April 2025, logs for builds on Standard and Premium accounts will be retained for 400 days, while logs for Free tier will be retained for 90 days.

Additionally, logs per step will be limited to 50MB. Logs that exceed that amount for a particular step will be truncated.

Why the change?

As Bitbucket Pipelines continues to grow, maintaining high levels of performance and reliability our customers expect is crucial. As part of this, it’s essential for us to implement best practices around data retention and rate limiting, preventing the behavior of some users from negatively impacting others.

How this affects you?

There is no immediate impact or action required from users. However, starting 25th April 2025, build logs older than their retention schedule 400 days (Premium and Standard) or 90 days (Free) will no longer be available either via the Pipelines UI, or via API.

New builds run with excessive logging (>50MB) will be truncated, no specific action is required here but we encourage you to ensure your builds follow good logging standards.
