Atlassian named a Leader in the 2024 Forrester Wave™ for Knowledge Management Solutions

Industry analyst report names Atlassian solution as a leader in knowledge management

We’re thrilled to share that Atlassian has been named a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Knowledge Management Solutions, Q4 2024 – the first-ever Wave in this market!

Confluence, a flagship product of Atlassian, has been at the forefront of knowledge management solutions for over two decades. Since its inception, Atlassian has been committed to enhancing the way teams collaborate and share knowledge. But we’re definitely not biased (queue the sarcasm).

After years in this space, it’s exciting to see knowledge management recognized with its own Forrester Wave as this market has never been more relevant for teams across the enterprise than right now.

AI is revolutionizing the way we manage knowledge

Knowledge management is at an exciting turning point, largely due to generative AI. At Atlassian, we believe that AI is critical to achieving our mission of unleashing the potential of all teams. It adds depth to new ideas, makes knowledge easier to find, and strengthens connections across projects.

With Rovo, our AI-driven product designed to help teams tap into organizational knowledge, teams can search their entire organization with enterprise search, find company information with personalized chat, and deploy specialized Rovo Agents to save hours of work.

In the report, Forrester shares that, “Atlassian is the best fit for customers seeking to transform traditional silos into an enterprise-wide collaborative practice heavily embracing an AI-first strategy.”

Knowledge management is more than a product, it’s a solution

When you think of a solution, what comes to mind? I think of solving a problem, starting on the right foot, or setting up for success – see where I’m going with this?

That’s how Atlassian views knowledge management. It’s not just a product, it’s a solution that solves painful organizational problems like collaboration woes, poor historical context, and informational silos. More importantly, a knowledge management solution sets your organization up to be successful.

A solution also requires a formula. At Atlassian, our knowledge formula consists of 3 different buckets:

  1. Knowledge Creation—Not all knowledge is created equal. That’s why various content types (pages, whiteboards, databases, video) are crucial for collaboration. Creativity requires flexibility.
  2. Knowledge Discovery – work is full of (hopefully) informed decisions. If you can’t find information, you can’t make decisions and if you can’t make decisions, then you can’t move work forward. See where we’re getting at?
  3. Knowledge Platform—The Atlassian platform is the bow that ties it all together, and by “it,” I mean knowledge. Knowledge has to sit somewhere, it has to be accessed by someone, and it has to be secure and scalable. On top of those considerations, when all of the information sits on one platform, teams are truly enabled to work effectively and move fast.

So when you have a solution where all of the above works simultaneously and seamlessly? Magic happens. To be more literal, those three principles make it possible for all teams to “transform traditional silos” and arm them with the collective intelligence, perspective, and context to collaborate successfully.

Atlassian practices what we preach

We just spent a lot of time defining knowledge, but don’t worry, we also have the tools to back it up.

In fact, the Forrester report stated that, “[Atlassian’s] strengths lie in a project-based approach to knowledge creation and collaboration, pulling knowledge from a vast set of sources into a centralized workspace. Integrated asynchronous videos are innovative, taking knowledge worker engagement into the modern era of video-first strategy.”

So without further ado, introducing…( drum roll please )

Confluence, a centralized workspace

Over the years, we’ve worked tirelessly to evolve Confluence into a collaborative and centralized workspace of shared knowledge. From early brainstorming to full-fledged plans to polished pages – collaboration, at any and every stage, happens in Confluence. For more effective collaboration and quicker decision-making, a knowledge management solution also needs to host information from all kinds of teams and sources. Thanks to Smart links, rich integrations, and the Atlassian platform, all roads information leads back to Confluence.

At the core, our teams want to align, amplify, and accelerate Udemy’s work. Atlassian helps us do that because it aligns our teams…enables us to amplify the work that is being done by providing a central place for everyone to go, which allows us to scale. In turn, that allows us to accelerate. Having a central place for everyone to get information, draft content, and get feedback has been invaluable.”

Loom, the asynchronous video tool

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is a video worth? Loom’s automatic transcripts can actually tell you. Loom is a powerful asynchronous video communication tool that allows you to share your video and your work. Have you ever heard of the phrase “show don’t tell”? That’s what Loom does and it’s a powerful way to share knowledge. Video conveys context in ways that text simply can’t. Loom deeply integrates with Confluence, allowing teams to automatically create pages from their Loom videos and easily include their Loom videos into Confluence pages.

We’ve recorded Loom tutorials to build a useful corpus of knowledge. For example, I use the tool to answer common support questions and show people how to use our tools. Now, rather than having to get on Zoom and walk someone through how to do something, I just send a link to a Loom video.”

The Atlassian platform, the power underneath

The platform is key to keeping your organization connected across tools. The Atlassian platform unifies work across all products, projects, and people. This includes unlocking automation, AI, analytics, and scalability across the entire suite of products and your favorite third-party tools.

We’ve automated away menial work. We can talk to teams about their processes and explain how we can help them focus on more interesting and important jobs that better use their time.”

– Andrei Tuch, Atlassian Product Owner at Riverty
