summary

This announcement provides estimated Forge pricing taking effect 1 Jan 2026. We will publish finalized pricing 6 months before pricing takes effect.

Forge remains free through 31 December 2025. From 1 January 2026, Forge will follow a consumption-based pricing model, with a generous free tier. Upon exceeding this free threshold, developers will be charged monthly in arrears for consumption of services.

Forge has seen great growth since its release, both in the number of apps built and the capabilities available to developers. Today we introduce our pricing model for Forge, starting with a generous free tier and consumption-based pricing beyond that. Note that any prices shared below are indicative-only, with finalized prices to be shared 6 months before pricing takes effect on 1 January 2026.

As we add new extensibility and value to Forge, including features like AI, advanced storage and containers, we will continue to evolve our pricing model.

Pricing model

Over the past year, we’ve surveyed partners and developers across the market to understand expectations around Forge pricing and the costs partners currently incur to run Atlassian apps. The research pointed toward a consumption-based model with a generous free tier, confirming what we laid out in our previous announcement.

Above the free usage tier, we will charge for the select capability classes listed below. We will add to this list over time as we introduce new hosted capabilities to the Forge platform, like Forge SQL service and Forge containers. We do not intend to charge for Forge features that do not incur an underlying operational cost, such as declaring a Forge manifest, or leveraging Forge remote capabilities, ensuring this does not impact your gradual adoption of Forge from Connect.

Pricing table

Forge is both a development and delivery platform, offering benefits that are specific to the needs of building enterprise-grade apps for Atlassian customers. Powerful platform features like data residency help developers build secure and commercially successful apps for Atlassian products, and this additional value is reflected in Forge pricing.

Prices and free thresholds are subject to change and will be reviewed and re-communicated mid 2025. Note that the currently documented platform quotas and limits will be updated to reflect the new free tier when pricing takes effect.

SLAs and support model

Apps that exceed the free tier will be eligible for enhanced support from our Ecosystem Support team. Details on the enhanced support offering will be provided in a future update before pricing takes effect on 1 January 2026.

We also plan to offer financially backed SLAs. The exact targets and capabilities are still being calculated, but we expect financial SLAs will be tied to app functionality necessary for customers to use your app, like function invocations, storage read and writes, app deployments and UI. The SLAs will allow you to recoup in the form of a service credit any money you’ve paid for usage of Forge.

Additionally, payments made to Atlassian for usage of the Forge platform above the free tier may be included when calculating Atlassian’s liability cap in the Forge terms and Marketplace Partner Agreement.

What’s next

We will continue to share information on pricing as it becomes available, and we will review and confirm pricing, thresholds, and paid capabilities before they are finalized. Official pricing will be communicated 6 months before it takes effect on 1 January 2026, and tooling will be made available to help partners measure and forecast their consumption.

We’re grateful to the partners who have trusted us to run their apps on Forge since its introduction, and with a sustainable economic model in place, we can continue to invest in new capabilities, which partners can use to grow and strengthen their own businesses.

FAQ

How can I tell what my Forge usage is today?

We’ve added usage metrics in the developer console to help you understand and identify issues with resource consumption in a Forge app. They provide insights into services such as compute, storage, and logs. We plan to add features such as additional filters, alerts, and a pricing calculator in 2025 to help you understand and forecast your Forge usage.

How will I know if I’m about to exceed the free tier limits? What happens then?

You will be alerted when your app is approaching the free tier threshold for a Forge resource. If you’ve consented to billing, your app will continue working uninterrupted once its usage exceeds the free tier limits.

If my app falls into the free tier, can I purchase SLA support separately?

No, only apps that exceed the free tier will be eligible for financially-backed SLAs and enhanced support.

Will I be charged for my app’s usage even if the app is free?

Yes, usage above the free tier will be charged regardless of whether or not the app is listed on the Atlassian Marketplace as free or paid. We are exploring usage or throttling controls that would aid developers of free apps in keeping their costs low. We welcome any feedback on this issue if it is relevant to you.

Will I be charged for apps I build privately for use by me or my team?

We are still collecting data and evaluating pricing options for apps built and used by individual organizations. We will confirm this in mid-2025 when we finalize Forge pricing details.

How does billing work?

Invoices for Forge usage will be issued monthly, in arrears. They will be issued separately from Marketplace remittances, and we will not support “zeroing” out usage invoices from owed remittances. Overdue payments may result in temporary suspension of your app (ie. functionality will stop working) and in cases of extreme delinquency, de-listing the app from the Marketplace.

How does this align with Forge quotas and limits?

Forge quotas and limits will remain to ensure the fair allocation of all Forge platform resources. However, we plan to update them in 2025 to streamline and allow increased usage for apps that exceed the free tier.

Will prices change in the future?

Yes. To create a sustainable business, pricing has to be calibrated to current market conditions, and there are many variables that can change over time. These include pricing for the services Atlassian consumes to deliver Forge, as well as AI technology and costs. We will always endeavour to price competitively and will review pricing periodically (much like Atlassian does for its flagship products). Changes to pricing and or the introduction of new capabilities will be announced at least 3 months in advance.

Will usage in my development environment count towards the free tier?

Yes. Usage will be measured across all environments.

Is the Forge Marketplace revenue share changing?

We consider partners’ cost of operating in the Marketplace holistically, and revenue share is a key factor. Our goal is to create the right conditions for new innovation in our Marketplace while incentivizing the creation of Cloud solutions that meet enterprise customer needs. Current Forge revenue share rates will remain in place until 1 January 2026. Any future changes to Marketplace revenue share will be communicated at least 6 months before they take effect.
