Apply for this job

Working at Atlassian:

Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.

Join our team and help us unleash the potential of every Atlassian.

We’re looking for a Director of Performance Management to oversee the strategy, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Atlassian Performance Experience (APEX).

Your mission will be to help us improve employee performance at Atlassian. This includes every aspect of driving a high-performance culture, including expectation and goal setting, peer and manager feedback, performance calibrations and assessments, promotions, and rewards. This is an exciting time to join the team as we’ve recently built an in-house performance management tool and are in the early stages of integrating AI capabilities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

This people manager role will sit on the Talent Team and report into the Head of Talent. You’ll lead a team of 5-10 direct reports and work with extended support teams, including People Operations, People Technology, and People Insights to operationalize and continuously improve the end-to-end performance experience.

You’ll “Play as a Team” with the broader People Team (e.g., HRBP, ER, Compensation, DEI, Talent Development) and the business (e.g., Engineering) to ensure our performance management strategies are aligned with business goals and achieving the right outcomes.

For this remote position, we’re looking for someone based in the Australian Eastern Standard Time Zone (AEST) to ensure overlapping collaboration hours with team members and partners in the United States, Australia, and India.

  • Manage a team of 5-10 direct reports located around the world, nurturing their professional growth through ongoing mentorship.

  • Lead a performance management strategy that aligns with Atlassian’s goals.

  • Design, implement, and improve performance management solutions that are efficient and effective.

  • Lead smooth performance review cycles that achieve the right outcomes.

  • Define success measures to help understand the impact of your efforts on employee performance and hold yourself and your team accountable for achieving results.

  • Establish listening mechanisms to guide decisions and make improvements.

  • Build collaborative and productive relationships with peers, partners, and business leaders across the organisation.

  • Lead change management efforts that are well-received by the business.

  • Maintain an understanding of the performance management needs across the business.

  • Act as the main point of contact for performance management across Atlassian.

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Business Administration, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years experience in performance management or related HR roles, preferably in the tech sector and in a distributed-first environment.

  • 5+ years experience managing global teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining top talent.

  • Experience building and nurturing productive and collaborative teams.

  • Experience designing and implementing end-to-end performance management solutions that achieve measured business outcomes.

  • Experience defining and clearly articulating vision, strategy, and tactics.

  • Experience defining KPIs and using data to guide decisions and improvements.

  • Experience managing multiple complex projects and ensuring execution excellence.

  • Experience building trusted and productive relationships with colleagues at all levels.

  • Experience leading change management and cultural transformation initiatives.

  • Experience creating a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Knowledge of performance management industry best practices.
