Server end of support FAQs

Where can I learn about my migration options? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

In most cases, we recommend moving to our Cloud products as soon as possible. By partnering with Atlassian on their move to Cloud, customers have seen lower costs, increased reliability, uptime, and security, and can focus on innovation over maintenance.

For customers with business requirements that prevent you from operating in Cloud, we also continue to offer Data Center.
Start by comparing your options and assessing which is best for your organization. Upon determining which is the best fit, use our Cloud migration guide or Data Center upgrade guide to get started.

What does Server end of support mean? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

As of 23:59 AEST on February 15, 2024, Atlassian and Marketplace Partners no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates, or bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we recommend moving to our Cloud or Data Center products as soon as possible.

Which products does Server end of support apply to? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

The end of support applies to:

  • Jira Software Server
  • Jira Core Server
  • Jira Service Management Server
  • Confluence Server
  • Bitbucket Server
  • Crowd Server
  • Bamboo Server
  • Atlassian-built Server apps

Exceptions:

  • Fisheye and Crucible: You are still able to purchase new licenses for Fisheye and Crucible, which remain in basic maintenance mode.
  • Marketplace apps: After February 15, 2024, Server Marketplace apps will reach end of support.
  • Atlassian-built apps included with a Data Center subscription: As part of the end of Server sale and support, we’ve included several Atlassian-built apps with a Data Center subscription:

If you don't have an existing Server license for the app, then as of February 2, 2021 you can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to Cloud or Data Center.

How does Server end of support affect my apps? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

As of February 15, 2024, Atlassian Marketplace no longer provides assistance with purchasing, renewing, upgrading, or promotion creation for any Server apps for Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and Crowd.

You may notice changes to the Marketplace including:

  • Tabs related to Pricing, Privacy & Security, and Support are removed from the Server app listing page.
  • Existing reviews for the app will be retained but the option to Write a review is disabled.
  • Server apps with limited tabs and hosting selector with the server option will be retained until February 15, 2025.
My Server products are now unsupported. What can I do to stay supported? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

We understand staying supported is a top priority. You have two options to move to a supported platform: migrate to Cloud or upgrade to Data Center. Cloud is our recommended option for the majority of our customers as it allows your teams to work faster, smarter, and stronger together on a trusted platform.

For next steps, we recommend:

Do I need to upgrade my Server version? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

If you are eligible for dual licensing, be sure to upgrade to the most recent LTS versions for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and/or Confluence, as they’ll continue to receive bug fix releases as you complete your migration to Cloud.

If you are planning to migrate to Cloud and on a Server version compatible with our migration tooling, then you can proceed with a migration directly.

Refer to the table below to see if you’re on a minimum supported Server version.

Product

Cloud Migration

Minimum Supported
Server/Data Center Version

Jira Software

Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA)

Jira Service Management

Jira Core
(now included as part of Jira Cloud)

7.6.0

Advanced Roadmaps
If you’re on Jira Server 8.15+ Advanced Roadmaps is already bundled with your Jira Server.

Confluence

Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA)

6.15.1

Bitbucket

Bitbucket Cloud Migration Assistant (BBCMA)

If you are planning to migrate to Cloud and not on a Server version compatible with our migration tooling, you’ll need to upgrade to a newer supported version first before migration. You can do this by starting a Data Center evaluation license - just keep in mind that your instance will become read-only in 30 days.

  • Best practice in this scenario is to complete all the steps of the Assess and Plan Phase, so that you are ready for the technical part of the migration.
  • Note that Data Center evaluation licenses last for 30 days. If you need more time to complete your migration, no problem – you can extend your license to 90 days upon request.

Final Server releases

The final Server Long Term Support (LTS) releases are Jira Software 9.12, Jira Service Management 5.12, and Confluence 8.5.

The final Server feature releases are Bitbucket 8.14, Bamboo 9.4, and Crowd 5.2. All future feature releases will only support our Data Center offering. Fisheye and Crucible will continue to remain in basic maintenance mode.

I’m a Server customer who qualified for extended Server support with dual licensing. What support can I expect? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

If you qualified for dual licensing and purchased a Cloud subscription between September 12, 2023, and February 15, 2024, you are eligible for extended Server support for up to 12 months. This offer was designed for larger, more complex Server customers to provide ample time for migration without the need to pay for both a Cloud subscription and a Server license simultaneously.

Atlassian will also continue to support Atlassian-owned apps such as Automation for Jira, Team Calendars for Confluence, Assets, and Assets Discovery. This support is also available for up to 12 months from the date of your Cloud subscription purchase, or until February 15, 2025, whichever comes first. Please note that there will not be any support provided for Advanced Roadmaps and Analytics for Confluence.

If you have a dual license, you can subscribe to receive e-mail updates for security patches, bug fixes and tech alerts. To ensure you are notified, update your preferences at: https://preferences.atlassian.com/

Migrate to cloud (recommended)

By partnering with Atlassian on their move to cloud, customers have seen lower costs, reduced risk of downtime and security issues, and can focus on innovation over maintenance. To quickly compare costs and see your recommended path to cloud based on your server products, use our personalized recommendation tool.

Migrate to Data Center

For server customers who can’t move to cloud yet due to company mandate or need a multi-year transition, we recommend migrating to Data Center. To understand the benefits of Data Center and how to plan for a migration, start by visiting our migration center.

Continue on server or Data Center

With three years of server support and continued investment in Data Center, you have time to make your decision and develop a migration plan based on your requirements and our roadmap.

How long will you continue to offer Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Atlassian has no plans at this time to end of life Data Center products. We understand that some customers have have business requirements that might prevent you from operating in cloud.

For these customers, we’ll continue to offer Data Center and invest in new capabilities shared through our Data Center roadmap. We will continue to build out the roadmap beyond the timelines currently published when we have new updates to share.

We recommend that customers who have requirements that currently prevent them from moving to the cloud watch our cloud roadmap to find out whether we’re working on the feature they need. If the feature a you need won’t be delivered before the end of support for Atlassian server products, we recommend moving to or staying on Data Center.

For all customers

With three years before the end of support, you have plenty of time to evaluate our cloud offerings, coordinate internally, and prepare – there’s no need to act immediately.

If you can’t yet move because you’re waiting for a particular feature or compliance certification, we’re committed to delivering new features and improvements faster in cloud, and you may find we’re delivering on your requirements soon.

Take a look at our cloud roadmap and the Trust Center for additional information on compliance and security for Atlassian cloud products, and how our teams are expanding coverage to help you meet compliance needs.

For customers that need data residency

Available today: Currently, data residency is available today as part of our cloud Enterprise plan, which is best for our largest customers who also need additional administrative, security, and scale features.

Coming soon: We know having control over where your data is stored is a requirement for teams of all sizes. We’re excited to announce data residency will be included in our Standard and Premium cloud plans for Jira and Confluence by second half of 2021. Sign up for updates and learn more here.

You can also keep an eye on our cloud roadmap to see the latest updates, including data residency for additional locations, data residency for apps, and more.
