How do Data Center subscriptions work? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Our Data Center products are based on annual subscriptions. Unlike our server licenses, Data Center subscriptions do expire and are not perpetual.

To continue using your Data Center subscription after your annual subscription expires, you must renew your subscription. The renewal cost is the same cost as a new license purchase for the user tier you require.

How do I upgrade the tier of my Data Center subscription? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

User tier upgrades to Data Center licenses are pro-rated through the license's current expiration date. For example, a Data Center license valid from 1-Jan through 1-Jan, and upgraded on 1-Sept, would only be billed for the period of 1-Sept through 1-Jan.

Please note that when upgrading a Data Center license's user tier, you are moving from one tier to another. For example, upgrading from 500 users to 1000 users will result in a total of 1000 users, not 1500 users.

Conversely, Data Center licenses can be downgraded to a lower tier at any time, however, it's important to note that refunds and credits are not provided for mid-term downgrades. Data Center licenses can be downgraded and renewed in one transaction, within 90 days of the license's expiry.

How do apps work with Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Data Center approved apps are available through the Atlassian Marketplace. These apps are purpose-built for Data Center environments; tested and verified to live up to Data Center-specific standards for performance, scalability, and reliability.

In each app's listing page, use the drop-down selection to verify a Data Center approved app exists.

Please note: we do not have specific dates for when an app will be available, please periodically check the app for an update or contact the app vendor for more information.

Will I still have access to my server license after I upgrade to Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Yes. Your server license will still be available on my.atlassian.com and will continue to work.

Once you upgrade a server license to Data Center, maintenance on the server license will no longer be renewed. If you wish, you can manually renew your server maintenance to a maximum end date of February 15, 2024 PT.

Server app licenses with a license start date prior to September 3, 2019, will continue to work on both server and Data Center host products. However, because some vendors may put capabilities behind a license check, you should consider upgrading to a Data Center app license if you want to ensure you have full Data Center app functionality. If you decide to continue running your server app, you will be required to purchase a Data Center app license for your Data Center host product if a Data Center app exists upon your next renewal.

What level of support is included with Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Starting February 2, 2021, PT, Priority Support will be included with a Data Center subscription to Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Crowd. It will also be included with a Bitbucket Data Center subscription for customers with 251 or more users (the 500 user tier and above) and Bamboo Data Center subscription for customers with 100 agents tier and above.

What are developer licenses? How are they used? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Developer licenses are available to existing commercial and academic self-managed license holders (not available for cloud) who wish to deploy non-production installations for use in testing and development of the Atlassian software (e.g. version upgrades, customizations to the software, etc) that should not be done on a live production environment.

Developer licenses can also be used for non-production installations of the software deployed on a cold standby server.

This license is provided free of charge and the maintenance expiration of this license will be synchronized to the maintenance expiration date of your product.

The technical contact for the license can generate a developer key by following these steps:

  1. Log in to my.atlassian.com.
  2. Click the Atlassian product in question - your account management screen will appear.
  3. In the Actions section click View Developer License.
  4. Review the Developer License agreement and click View. A license key will be presented. Copy and paste this key into your development server.

If you're running multiple pre-production servers, such as development, testing, and QA servers, you may generate more than one license key.

Data Center Approved Apps

What is a Data Center approved app? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Atlassian has established app development and testing criteria for Marketplace apps used in Data Center environments. These include elements of how apps handle cache operations, support required databases, implement locking and availability in clustered environments, manage event handlers, and much more.

Effective late 2018, a "Data Center approved app" must undergo a rigorous technical review process, established and maintained by Atlassian, to verify its ability to perform at a standard suited for Data Center environments.

What is the criteria for being an "approved" app? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Atlassian Marketplace Partners must build and test their apps to meet the new approval standards, and submit all test results to Atlassian for review prior to earning the designation of "Data Center approved app."

There are two parts to our validation process:

  • Completing a 150+ question architectural review
  • Completing a testing process to trial apps in an environment that simulates a large scale Data Center instance

If a vendor introduces a Data Center approved app after September 3, 2019, there are a few additional requirements:

  • Three months prior to the introduction of a Data Center approved app: Vendors must add a notification in their app's release notes informing you that 1). they intend to launch a Data Center approved version of this app and 2). if you own a Data Center host product, you will be required to purchase a Data Center app license upon your next renewal.
  • A month prior to the introduction of a Data Center approved app: Vendors must contact you and inform you of the launch of the Data Center approved app and provide you with the steps to renew or migrate your license.

Atlassian will then evaluate the readiness of an app and make the decision as to whether to designate the app as Data Center approved. Atlassian does not conduct the testing ourselves; all testing of apps is conducted by the app vendor.

For updates on the status of specific apps, please reach out to the Marketplace vendor. For more details on Data Center approved app criteria, please see Developing Apps for Atlassian Data Center Products.

How can I tell if an app is Data Center approved? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

"Data Center" will be a freestanding version of the app accessible via the drop-down menu on the app's listing page in the Atlassian Marketplace.

What happens to my apps when I migrate from server to Data Center? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

When you migrate to a Data Center host product, your server app license(s) will no longer be valid on a Data Center instance if a Data Center version of the app is available on the Atlassian Marketplace. You will be required to move to a Data Center app license(s) in this case.

How are Data Center approved apps priced and licensed? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Just like Data Center products, Data Center approved apps will follow an annual subscription licensing model and will match the user tiers of the corresponding Data Center host products. Data Center licenses expire and are not perpetual.

To continue using Data Center approved apps after the original annual term, you must renew your Data Center app license. The renewal cost is the same as a new license purchase for the required user tier.

Marketplace vendors will be able to adjust their pricing for Data Center approved apps and differentiate their server and Data Center pricing. Atlassian does not influence the pricing of Marketplace apps, this is solely in the control of the Marketplace vendor.
